HOW IT ALL STARTED IN 1965
The first TGI Fridays opened on the corner of 63rd Street and First Avenue in New York City in 1965, with the timeless promise: “In here, it’s always Friday.” Inspired by the Barnum & Bailey circus and driven by the ambition to create “The Greatest Show on Earth,” a red-and-white–striped phenomenon was born.
With delicious cocktails and charismatic bartenders, it quickly became the go-to spot for locals who loved lively nights and good fun.
Within a week, it became the first restaurant to need barriers just to manage the enthusiastic crowds! Fridays became the ultimate meeting place — offering not only great food and drinks, but also a legendary atmosphere.
